The Malaysian Triennium

2009-2012

Malaysia was officially handed over the Presidency of the International Gas Union (IGU) at the 24th World Gas Conference that ended in Buenos Aires on 10 October 2009. President of the Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) Datuk (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim took over the role of IGU President for the 2009 – 2012 Triennium from Mr. Ernesto López Anadón of the Argentine Oil & Gas Institute. A first for Malaysia, this is only the second time an Asian country is given the IGU leadership; after Japan in 2003.

MGA, together with PETRONAS, had bid for Malaysia to be elected to the IGU Presidency, and Kuala Lumpur was chosen as the venue for the 25th World Gas Conference in 2012 (WGC2012). The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre will be the main venue for both the Conference and Exhibition during WGC2012, which will take place from 4 to 8 June 2012. A large congregation of professionals comprising industry and political leaders, gas executives, shapers and movers of the gas industry will be at WGC2012, where more than 5,000 delegates are expected to attend.
