Programme Committee A (PGC A): Sustainable Development

6. A Environmental development
Objectives: Continuous improvement in the performance of the gas industry is of vital importance. In this forum the focus shall be on the reduction of greenhouse gas emission, improvement of energy efficiency, CO2 sequestration and methane leakage mitigation. Identify projects that have been demonstrated by the gas industry.
Key Words: Emission reduction – Efficiency improvement – CO2 sequestration – Climate

6. B Cooperation with renewables
Objectives: Natural gas is an ideal transition fuel from fossil sources to a fully renewable energy system. To show the progress, the combination and complementation of energy sourcing between natural gas and renewable energy alternatives like solar, wind and biomass and of transport and use of biogas or hydrogen shall be presented in this forum.
Key words: Energy transition – Diversification – Renewable energy – Biogas – Hydrogen

6. C Economic and social development
Objectives: To become a long-term sustainable industry, the gas sector has to contribute to sound economic growth in the countries they operate in, while meeting their own economic targets. Papers in this session shall describe projects making a lasting contribution to human welfare, including the socio-cultural development of groups and communities that until now have been unable to benefit from the achievements of the developed world.
Key words: Economic growth – Human welfare – Social development – Sustainable Development

6. D Post Kyoto Protocol
Objectives: Discuss what type of regulation is the best tool for regulation of the greenhouse gas emissions in the world. Can we achieve a global agreement post the Kyoto Protocol? Discuss if there are obstacles in getting all countries to ratify one agreement.
Key words: Kyoto Protocol – Regulation – Quota trading
